History of Elberta, AL
This small town of Elberta is bursting with character and history, with its German heritage to its native ancestors.
In 1903, a group of German businessmen called Baldwin County Colonization Company bought 53,000 acres of land. It is where Elberta stands, dividing it into 40-acre tracts with roads and schools already in the area. These men recruited German immigrants to settle in the area while a hotel opened in 1904 to accommodate visitors. Since then, Elberta has continued to thrive amidst challenges like Hurricane Frederick in 1979.
You can now see Elberta offering visitors a cozy bed and breakfast, outdoor activities, and vibrant festivities.
Baldwin County Heritage Museum

Stop by Bamahenge, a full-scale replica of England’s Stonehenge monument that you can find in Barber Marina.
Artist Mark Cline built the replica using fiberglass at the request of the marina owner, George W. Barber.
You can easily park your cars on the grass and walk up to the slabs to see the structure.
There are few signs, but Bamahenge remains a fascinating sight for locals and tourists in Elberta.
